I decided to attend CBT as I had been feeling anxious for a long period of time and had developed OCD. Marcus provided a calm and comfortable environment and has excellent listening skills. Challenging my rigid beliefs and forcing my rational mind to dominate my irrational mind has calmed my thinking and enabled me to operate with less anxiety than before. Also, meditative practice and visualising achieving my goal has enabled me to operate with more clarity and free up my cluttered thinking. This has alleviated much of my anxiety and I have a more positive approach to life. Through time and continued implementation of the tools and strategies learned through my CBT sessions, I hope to continue to improve and be my old self once again. Thank you, Marcus.
I decided to contact Marcus as I suffered bad anxiety mainly linked to work. Unsure about seeking help initially, Marcus provided a really safe and understanding environment from session one in which I could share my concerns. After identifying the main cause of my anxieties in the first couple of sessions, we then worked on techniques to try and challenge the in-built negative beliefs I had. I use many of these techniques to stave off the feelings I have now, and it really does work. Over a period of a few months my outlook has changed massively and I am a happier, more confident and less anxious person as a direct result of my sessions with Marcus. I can't recommend enough to anyone who faces similar issues.
After suffering intense anxiety, leading to insomnia for two years following the birth of my son, I found Marcus. I had previously been seeing a therapist for a year - on and off. I chose to go down the CBT route as the talking therapy just wasn't 'fixing' me. I'm so so glad I did. After just two sessions with Marcus my life is back, I'm back! I could cry typing this as I felt I was well and truly de-railed in my thinking. He seems to know where to point me. He gave me the nudge I needed to move forward in that direction and the tools to take with me. I'm still working it, I think I will be for a while, but I have the huge confidence now knowing that I'm in control of my thoughts and that in turn has made me a healthier, happy (pill-free) woman. Big thanks from my son and husband - you helped get their mum and wife back!
I'd been having recurring bouts of depression, self-doubt and anxiety, and was generally really unhappy with myself, though I had done years of work in getting more positive and changing what I could about my life.I decided to embark on REBT to find out what was at the heart of it. We discovered that I had a fear of being perceived as a failure, and that what I considered 'failure' was not actually failure.I learned to recognise a sudden dip into feeling bad - and to be able to track it back to its source so I could talk myself through it logically.Six months on and I have been more resilient, and much happier and content than for many, many years. I don't think my lockdown experience would have been as tolerable without this counselling experience. After a few months working together, I’ve now signed up for an evening course in Teaching for FE and the art class has agreed to take me as their tutor this year.Seriously, thank you very, very much for the work you did with me. I am stunned at the progress I've made, and very grateful.
Thank you for the wide-ranging help which you gave me in 2020: without your support and expertise, around Easter in particular, I feel I would not now be here. Marcus quickly helped me overcome my reservations about a talking therapy with his immediate empathy, patience, engagement and obvious expertise - worn lightly and with good humour. The sessions were effectively structured and followed a pattern which I found helpful and reassuring. Simple, memorable diagrams were of particular help to me as were recommended book titles. Marcus enabled me to change my behaviour, initially in small incremental ways: social interaction increased, small risks were taken with positive results, problem areas were focussed on - such as concentration and procrastination. Marcus’ approach correctly demanded real commitment from the client - I benefited from his approach because, critically, I was very committed indeed. If asked to identify three key success criteria which marked Marcus’ approach I would identify: proven expertise, a sense of humour, ability to reduce the client’s complex difficulties to a simplified core which we could focus on.
